“Snacks help everything.” Abu offered Mira a cheese stick, and she took it.

Mira didn’t say anything about me, though. Whatever. I had a job to do.

“Come in, Hurricane Hunter. What’s next?” I asked on the radio. “Over.”

“We’re going to try to find the exact center of the hurricane,” Joanna said. “That’s really important information for the computer models. Over.”

“Why haven’t you figured out a way to actually stop the hurricane?” I asked. “Shouldn’t scientists be working on that? Over.”

The pilot laughed through the radio. She actually laughed at me! How rude.

“Well, back in the 1960s the government created Project STORMFURY—a program where they actually did try to stop hurricanes. But the project never worked. Turns out humans can’t really control the weather. Over.”

I glared at the radio. “What do you mean? We’ve invented so many great things! And we’re just giving up on stopping hurricanes? Over.”

“Hey, kid,” the pilot said. “I don’t make the rules. Maybe you can change their minds. Over.”

“Okay, maybe I will,” I said. “Over.”

I put away the radio and dropped my head against the dash. Even the Hurricane Hunters thought my mission was impossible. What was I going to do?

Mira reached out and patted my shoulder. “Maybe this is a job for kids, not adults. After all, they barely have any imagination.”

I turned to face her. “Just adults?”

Mira paused. “Okay, I know I’ve been giving you a hard time. But I believe you. This is real.”

I whooped and hollered with excitement. Mira believed me! Abu also cheered, and Professor Cheetah purred.

Fluff Monster said, “Arf! Arf! Arf!”

She was so excited, her tail wagging so hard… that it hit one of the levers on the dash!

Suddenly we were shooting way, way down!
